Letter from Paul Webster
Dear MURFC Supporters & Sponsors,
With the “regular” club season for our teams (except Colts) now completed, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our loyal supporters & sponsors for your tremendous support this year. Whilst the Premier sides stopped short of our goals to obtain some silverware in 2008, the club’s on-field performance in its 100th year is still one to remember. We achieved a top four finish in Premier 1 and Premier 2, the first time in 10 years, Premier 3 missed the finals by one point, the Centenary match on the main University Oval was an outstanding success and all sides are playing an attractive style of rugby, with a high level of commitment and enthusiasm.
Furthermore, we had eight senior players selected for the Victorian Axemen team and recently five Colts have been selected for the Victorian U20 side to tour Western Australia. The Colts continue to progress at the top of their competition and can look forward to playing finals football, hopefully progressing that one step further than last year.
As most supporters are aware, we have secured some exciting young players who will be involved in the forthcoming Pillar & Lightning competitions. The addition of these new players to the club is due to the connection we maintain with our past players, members, supporters, sponsors & the respective networks of the Melbourne University Rugby community.
MURFC & it’s supporters can continue to look forward with excitement to the remainder of the 2008 season & beyond. The entire club has made considerable strides forward over the last few years and we continue to work hard to ensure that Melbourne University Rugby Football Club continues to grow as one of the Premier Rugby clubs in Victoria for many years to come.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on the sidelines.
Yours in rugby,
Paul Webster.
Coach MURFC.
