GUEST SPEAKER: FORMER WALLABY CAPTAIN DR MARK LOANE

To RSVP your attendance and book your seats please contact Peter Hone via email (chone@bigpond.net.au) or call him on 9509 0426 by Thursday 18th June

To most Australians, Mark Loane is the formidable former Wallaby. Once described as “the closest thing to a folk hero Queensland has seen”, this captain of state and country was “The Train Without A Station”, Queensland’s marauding No 8.

Born in 1954 Mark attended Nudgee College before studying Medicine at University of Queensland. In 1972 at age 18 he made his Test debut, and is the youngest Wallaby forward ever. He played 28 tests up until 1982, 6 as captain. His first test as captain was the famous 1979 match against the All Blacks at the SCG which Australia won 12-6 to take back the Bledisloe Cup for the first time in 30 years. He received a University Full Blue in 1973 before graduating from UQ in 1978. He played 89 games for Queensland and in 1979 Captained the UQ Premiership side in the legendary 200 Minute Grand Final against arch rivals Brothers, which Uni won. Now a highly respected eye surgeon and a former chairman of the Qld College of Ophthalmology, he has a strong interest in the provision of ophthalmic services to indigenous people.

Always a rousing occasion of many laughs and amusing anecdotes, this is the perfect Club event to invite partners, colleagues, friends, and family. Given the big occasion with such a high profile speaker, places will fill up fast. See attached flyer.
