Saturday the 07th of June was a massive day for the club on and off the field.
10th EM Shaw Cup
In the curtain raiser MURFC played Old Xavier for the 10th Shaw Cup. In a closely fought match it was former MURFC players that proved the difference between the side as Wilson Tighe and Peter Shaw scored two tries each, as the old Xavs out pointed MURFC 25-12.
MURFC Centenary Match
An exciting line-up of players participated in the MURFC President’s XV v VRU President’s XV - MURFC Centenary Match held on the main University Oval, Saturday 7 June, 2008.
The MURFC President’s XV featured Wallabies Matt Cockbain, Melbourne Rebels Luke Cross, Josh Hately playing alongside colts players: Alex Gyles; Tevita Isofa; Harry Russell; Taumafai Komiti; Matt Giddoes; Matt Komiti; Ted Laing as well as many other MURFC players. The VRU Lloyd Johansson (Reds), Brumbies John Ulugia. Spectators witnessed an entertaining, Barbarians-style of rugby with the MURFC President’s XV winning 29-10.

The Centenary Dinner
Was held that night at University House, Tin Alley, Melbourne University, Parkville
It was a rollicking occasion celebrating the heritage of the club and reuniting old friends.
