Continue at the State Netball/Hockey Centre Tues and Thurs 6 – 8 pm until Thurs 22nd April Easter arrangements will be advised depending on how we are progressing skills and fitnesswise.

Coaching/Management Team 2010

Please find details of the coaching/management team for 2010 here. The club is very fortunate to have a very strong group of experienced, hard-working coaches/managers locked in for 2010. With the recent announcement of the Melbourne Super 15 team we have already received inquiries from players and coaches looking to re-locate to Melbourne in 2010.

Pre-season game against Southern States Army Rugby

Saturday 20 March- The Australia Army Rugby Union has invited the club to a pre-season game at the Puckapunyal Army Barracks on Saturday 20 March to play for the Weary Dunlop Cup. We intend to travel with two sides as well as many supporters including the Provost of the University John Dewar. It is proposed that a Weary Dunlop Rugby lunch will be held in the Tobruk Officers Barracks Mess on the day of the game. Furthermore the Melbourne University Regiment Pipes and Drums band will be accompanying the group. The Regiment is celebrating its centenary in 2010. Further details will follow in the New Year. Other pre-season games are also being planned.

At the recent Weary Dunlop Rugby lunch attended by over 500 guests- including more than 30 MURFC members, it was very pleasing to see Rick Boykett be recognised for his outstanding contribution to community rugby in Victoria over many years. Rick was presented the VRU Distinguished Service Award by VRU President Gary Gray and Gary’s introductory remarks follow.  

“Rick Boykett has been an active and key committee member of the Melbourne University Rugby Club for the past 23 years.”

“Over this time he has been in the forefront of all the important Club issues and developments.  During most of this time he has played, captained and coached as well as taken on whatever administrative role is the most critical at the time.”

“He is the volunteer every amateur club needs and few are lucky enough to have, combining enthusiasm and commitment with great administrative ability. He was recently made a life member of the Club; only the fifth person to be recognized this way in the hundred years of the Club’s existence.”

Now that the season and our Centenary year is coming to a close, we would love it if you could celebrate it in style at the end of Season Annual Dinner and Awards night.
