MURFC site primer
As part of my upgrade to the MURFC website I have installed the WordPress personal publishing platform . As this supports multiple users all approved members of the committe can publish content on the website.
Registration
In order to begin using wordpress you will firstly need to register here.
The system will automatically me an email to approve your access. Once I have done this it will send you an email detailing your password, which you can then use to login here.
Once logged in you can change your password. This can be done here, simply click on edit and change your password.
Posts and Pages
Content on the website is in two different types.
Posts: These are news items (eg training this week, teams this Saturday etc). They appear on the main page of the website and are listed from newest at the top and oldest at the bottom.
Pages: These are information on the club (eg club song, club contacts, clubhouse map) etc. There are links to these pages from the main page.
Publishing and editing
Most updates to the websites will fall under the following three categories.
Adding a new post: Once logged in you will have the dashboard in front of you. navigate to Write->Posts or click here. You will then have a browser based editor in front of you. Use it to write your post to add images use the upload facility below the editor.
The save button save the post but do not publish it, in order for the post to appear on the main page you must click Publish!
Edit a Post: To edit an existing Post navigate to Manage->Posts or click here. Find the Post you wish to change and click edit. You will then be greeted with the editor mentioned above.
Edit a page: To edit an existing Page navigate to Manage->Pages or click here. Find the Page you wish to edit and click edit. You will then be greeted with the editor mentioned above.
Archiving Posts
As posts are time specific in nature you may want to archive specific posts. This will keep them on the website but they will no longer be published on the front page. To do this navigate to Manage->Posts and change the category to Archived News. It will then remain in the database but will not appear on the front page.
Further Assistance
The above actions should comprise the majority of the changes to the website. All other changes eg software upgrades, template changes, new pages, general cleanup etc will still be handled at my end.
I imagine there will be a teething period but given the software is extremely easy to use this should settle down. Any problems please email me or call .
